This piece reflects my experience of feeling restricted by my family, school, and society—told that something was "wrong" with me after being diagnosed with ADHD. I was prescribed medication to make me function in a way that appeased teachers, family, and the world around me, but instead, these pills brought me anxiety, distress, discomfort, and loss of appetite.
At the time, I saw it as a sign that I wasn’t truly accepted or loved for who I was, and that society had failed me. Eventually, I rebelled and stopped taking the medication—and I am perfectly fine. For those who still see me as different, odd, or weird, I no longer care. I believe that society has failed those labeled with "mental illness", when in reality, many of us are spiritually gifted, highly intelligent, and deeply in tune with the world in ways others aren’t.
This piece is a testament to self-acceptance—there is power in being exactly who you are, even when society rejects it.
