I remember feeling incredibly proud when I finished this piece, considering it my best work at the time. Looking back, I find it funny that I momentarily forgot about my I Am Green painting or any of my colorful cartoon drawings up to that point. But in that moment, what mattered most was the visible progress I was making—seeing improvements in form, shadow, light, and contrast.

This piece represented a turning point in my artistic journey, affirming that I was capable and deserving of being in the advanced art classes I had worked so hard to get into. It was a moment of validation, reminding me why I was so determined to pursue art in high school.
